Website News - RSS Feed: Bugfixes applied
Date Posted: 13th March 2008 at 17:44 pm

Folks,

I have found a few bugs in my code that generates the RSS Sprint 15 News feed when it deals with certain links and when read by Microsoft Outlook and the Vista RSS Gadget which mean't that when articles were clicked to goto that item on the site it either didn't goto the right place or had an incorrect URL.

I have put in place a bug fix which resolves these issues but it may mean that some articles in your feed will appear twice because the URLs will be different and thus your reader will think they are two seperate articles.

Whilst I did this I also fixed the RSS detection so that your browser will spot the feed availability when you navigate to any page within the site, the chat part of the site has its own feeds so you can spot new postings. This is the orange icon next too your home page button in IE7 for example, it should now light up.

RSS for the uninitiated provides a means by which you can be informed of happenings on a website, in this case the Sprint 15 News postings which appear on the homepage, so that you don't have to visit the site to determine if it has been updated. You use an RSS reader to subscribe to the feed so that when you use your computer it will automatically download it and display any updates. For example I use Outlook 2007 to read the feed, a new feature for that version of outlook.
