Queen Mary Winter TT Saturday February 18th

Just a reminder to every one that the next event of the Sprint 15 Winter Series is taking place at Queen Mary Sailing Club on Saturday February 18th.

As usual for the Winter Series, the first race is scheduled for an 11-00am start with the 2nd race to follow ASAP afterwards,
leaving time for packing away and lunch to follow.

Gates of the club open officially at 9-00am but often it's earlier.

Pleased to report that we have no water shortage down south and the reservoir is full.

Hope to see all the usual contenders and any one who wants to come along for the event.

Steve Sawford is bringing my boat back on Saturday, so I will be there unless things turn really bad - I've had some health issues earlier this week. If they recur enough to mean I arrive but can't sail, I'll either help the RO on the committee boat or hitch a ride on a safety boat - from which I can yell words of encouragement - and take photos.

wind guru is now saying ballistic wind and the bbc is saying almost ideal conditions, only one way to find out...and thats to be there. see you saturday. stew

Met Office (Heathrow - 4 miles away, max), Windguru and xcweather all forecast F4 rising to F5, gusting to F7.

Don't see why Robert should fear such conditions.... or most anyone else....

A big THANK YOU to all at QM for a great day out yesterday in some testing conditions. Not least of all was the launch and recovery and I am indebted to my mates from Draycote and the QM beach team who helped me in both to ensure it was safely accomplished without damage!
Having not sailed since our home event, it was just what was needed. Great course, great wind, great hospitality and the usual bonhomie all made for a memorable day. Superb. (I've got quite a few sore bits this morning)

Yep, it certainly looked good from the clubhouse. I got some company watching from the clubhouse as a number were put off by the conditions - actually it was more the launching that put people off as it was a strong onshore breeze and Mark had a struggle to get away and it put a few off. We were even joined in the clubhouse by Gordon who sadly lost his mast in the first race so we had quite a group of spectators. A few of the old timers were reminiscing that we were missing Owmuch and his friendly banter. I thought that it could be the fact that Draycote are running rings round Carsington in the inter-club derby and that Owmuch is giving up the fight, but then Gordon let slip that Liz has got the new kitchen (something she has been fighting for for 10 years or so) so the poor old chap is probably short of the readies. Never mind - I bet he is oozing brownie points to go sailing again (when he can afford it)
We hope it is soon.

Well said George. Thank you QM for a superb event in interesting conditions.

I figured I'd go for the 'quick launch' and thank you to my helpers for getting me going and to those that manned the shore for our return - very much appreciated!

The course was spot on and the shifts did make the beat challenging on a few occassions. Reaching was quite exciting with many moments and it was good to see everyone back on shore safely despite some very dramatic cap sizes and some significant near misses..

I'm looking forward to seeing those that can make it @ Grafham and if anybody wants to sail a weekend or two beforehand to suss the tides, let me know and I'll speak with the club to be sure we leave the boats in the right place and ask fellow mebers to book you in as a day sailor.
