Q question on Facebook

Post by Bob Carter »

Question,
Hi, just wondering if having a strip of aluminum on the bottom of the hull to prevent wearing on the bottom of the hull is class legal. Thanks

Answer,
No it is not class legal but I doubt anyone would protest you as it is likely to make your boat slower.
i know one guy did it on one of the South coast pebble beach clubs (Pevensey Bay I think).
I would not recommend it though for the following reasons:
1) It will not protect the boat adjacent to the strips.
2) the way you fix the strips on may increase the likelyhood of leaks.
3) It will reduce the value of your boat
I know of another guy who addressed the problem by having long lengths of plastic gutter he tied to the boat whilst it was ashore.
Regards
Bob
