Re: What to wear recommendations please

Good point, give them some feedback on their website. Steve Cockerills a reasonable bloke and would accept any criticism on their product range for women. Without us punters buying stuff he'd be out of business. It's surprising where you find some really good gear. We have a Cotswold Rock Bottom out...

Re: What to wear recommendations please

They don't sell much retail mostly on-line ordering which can be difficult when you want a well fitting item. If you can wait a while they always have a big stand at the Dinghy Show and encourage shoppers to try on their stuff. Base layers and spray tops are mostly unisex, though top layers have bri...

Re: What to wear recommendations please

Have a look at the Rooster website. I've used their longjohn style wetsuits for a few years now and have been very pleased with their build quality and performance. Rooster feature layering systems i.e. base, mid and outer garments which I mix and match depending on the conditions. I'm a big fan of ...

Re: Pwllheli Nationals

It could be flag 1, the Japanese national flag and flag 3, vertical stripes like a European country flag I can't remember, are different compared to flag 2, another dot on a dark background. If your myopic, colour blind or the flag sticker on your boat has faded, it may be difficult to distinguish 1...

Re: Draycote

Talking of things Northern would anyone be interested in reinstating a Welsh Open for 2017. Abersoch Dinghy Week are considering having a multihull class start and if we could muster up enough Sprint 15s I'm happy to fund a trophy. Abersoch 2016 was an interesting experience, I almost got booted out...

Re: Nationals Update

The TERA Nationals are taking place at Pwllheli on the Sat, Sun and Monday bank holiday weekend so the venue Plas Heli will be busy while we are there. The new sailing centre is very smart and well able to cope with multiple events at the same time. Good chance to show the cat and cat sailing to a y...

Re: Why doesn't my new sail point as well as the old one?

I've just returned from Abersoch dinghy week and had the same experience with a new sail. As stated giving the sail a good beating on windy days improved the situation. A good shakedown for the Nationals at the end of the month. I'll post my thoughts about Abersoch dinghy week as a separate message ...

Re: Halyard locking

Thanks for the feedback, I've turned the locking ring around as Steve suggested plus made the stopper knot as small and as close to the end of the halyard as possible. But giving the rope a good twist as it leaves the locking ring seems to have sorted the problem. Just a new stiff rope which will so...

Halyard locking

Hi all Since replacing my main halyard with a new one from windsport I've had trouble getting the mainsail to lock when raised. The old rope halyard was very soft and stretched so I can only think my trouble is due to the new rope being a bit stiff, the stopper knot faces away from the mast so as th...

Re: Sailing watches

I've had a Casio Sea Pathfinder for years as my daily knocking about watch. Not rated it much on the boat as the countdown is difficult to use and adjust and there's no sync function. On the plus side I've only had to replace the battery once and was able to do this via H Samuel high street jeweller...

Re: Mast heel casting

Thanks Brian, that's quite interesting as this season I've noticed I can move the base of the mast a couple of millimetres forward and back on the ball (when the mast is raised). I replaced the heel plate this but it made no difference. There's also been more metallic sludge ground away from the hee...

Mast heel casting

I probably know the answer to this query but thought I would share it. When the mast is dropped and lies across the back of the boat it has become increasingly difficult to remove the pin at the base (a second person has to lift the mast a foot or so off the track to make pin removal easy). I replac...

Re: Launching trolley bar extraction

It's the stub axle you've bust, that's happened to me twice over the years. If you sail on the sea a combination of salt and sand grinds away in the gap between trolley wheel and aluminium tube. Eventually it gives up and breaks. I got a local firm to weld the two pieces back together but aluminium ...

Re: Pwllheli Nationals 2016

The new Plas Heli sailing venu at Pwllheli is very smart and tested in its first season with the Optimists, 29ers and the Fireball Worlds. Thanks for posting the date for next years Nationals, I'll book my holiday time.
