Re: #1758

Hi Phil
Hope your Sprint 15 sailing goes well. I've still got 1615 based at Llandudno but also sail a Supernova. Doing the Sprint Nationals this year at Thorpe Bay, that's a long drive but a good weekend, should be 70+ entries.
If you need any help with the cat get in touch.

Water in the hulls

This subject crops up on the forum quite often but I've noticed my hulls stay nice and dry while sailing upright in any wind (a sponge full each side at most), but if I do what I did yesterday and capsize completely over, once recovered my hulls take on a fare bit of water (ten or more sponges each ...

Hull and overall boat weight

Couple of weeks ago when the debate was raging regarding new boat weight, minimum overall weight etc I published hull weights for 1615 after balancing them on the bathroom scales. The numbers looked very light, unbelievably light so I've been working to obtain accurate data with truly reflects the w...

Re: 104 KG - FACT OR FICTION?

.........weighed using my digital bathroom scales on the garage floor. I did the best I could given the equipment available. Perhaps I can find a more accurate method but whatever the weight the guy holding the stick (me) will always be toward the back of the fleet, but enjoying my day.

Re: WEIGHTGATE the questions the committee wont answer

Blimey what a mess (of our own making)

"We have lost our sponsor"........ please explain.

I did wonder why Brian hadn't posted any response to the 'debate', disgusted I expect.

Re: 104 KG - FACT OR FICTION?

Hi Bob I think my method was reasonably sound. I placed my scales (Salter digital/domestic type), on a block on the garage floor, then lifted each hull onto the scales at the balance point. Once the hull stopped wiggling about the weight reading settled down nicely. Even Mrs Parvin was surprised how...

Re: 104 KG - FACT OR FICTION?

It's interesting to follow the evolution of the Sprint 15 to another sailing dinghy that's been around a while the Supernova. First built by Giles in GRP then more recently by Hartleys again in GRP MkII, then switching to epoxy resin and now known as the Mk IIe. Hull weight has come down from 62.5kg...

Re: 104 KG - FACT OR FICTION?

All this talk of hull weight has made me run into the garage and put 1615 on the scales. Port hull 31.6kg Starboard hull 31.1kg (major hull repair by Steve Sawford) I think my results are as accurate as I could achieve and for a 1991 build boat isn't to bad. I've put on more wood over the years than...

Re: Definition of Sport Mode

Thanks Liam, I'm familiar with the permutations in hadicap within the Sprint 15 fleet but by mixed fleet I mean sailing with other classes. I've sailed Abersoch dinghy week several times and I have the option of sailing two up in the afternoon races. I've always been under the impression that this w...

Re: Definition of Sport Mode

Ok thanks for that. Does the PY rating reflect that? Again our web site describes sailing 'Sport Mode' as single handed.

Definition of Sport Mode

Just so I'm clear, our web site describes Sport mode as single handed with main jib and trapeze, but is two up with main jib and trapeze allowed?
Part of the challenge of Sport mode is multi-tasking with the two sails whilst out on the wire. Having a crew should make that task easier?

Re: Thinking of a NEW SAIL for next season?

It's a good offer from Windsport for a new sail, but shame to have disappointed customers on a waiting list. Is there no possibility of expanding the offer?
