Re: Sad News - Terry Postlethwaite

Sorry to hear this news. Terry was a great sailor and the mainstay of the Sprint 15 fleet at Beaver for many years, building probably the most competitive fleet that has ever existed and a team that supported events around the country. Particularly the nationals where a large team would attend and s...

Re: 1461

Hi Chris, Do you live in the GTA? The Sprint 15 mast should be set up to be perpendicular to the boat, i.e. vertical or very slightly forward. The rigging is typically looser than other cats, so that you can easily move the mast to around 80 deg, then with a little effort you should be able to rotat...

Re: Toronto Sailing Club in January

We don't have the runway for that. However we played hockey again today while the kiteboarders swapped their boards for skis and snowboards. They were getting good air! 20' off the ground at times.

This is what happens in January at our Toronto sailing club. Last week the clubs put sofas on the ice to watch the members play hockey.

No ice-breakers yet. We are a little warmer than normal, I guess the UK is a bit cooler......

Protests

..and to illustrate my point I lost my first protest this weekend which I thought would be a dead cert! Sunday was the final harbourmaster races of the series. The committee boat signaled a 6 lap course which can be either 2 triangles with a downwind finish or an olympic with a windward finish. The ...

Protests

Question - if the person who was being protested didn't know they were being protested how could the protest be valid? The rules say that the boat intending to protest shall inform the other boat at the first reasonable opportunity. Most protests are due to collisions, near collisions or when a righ...

GPS in F18 Worlds

Here is an interesting GPS race. I haven't seen the write up yet but this is the scenario I think. Hugh Styles leading the event into the final race. Olivier Backes in 2nd place, Darren Bundock and Will Howden 3rd. Bundock/Howden cannot mathematically win, but they can get 2nd if they sail Hugh Styl...

Kattack

Yes the company was called kattack, here is their web site: http://www.kattack.com/ The device we had was just a regular cell phone in a waterproof box. They had some older units which were bigger and heavier (it was pot luck if you got a light or heavy one). The regatta had all sorts of dinghy and ...

New Project....

Hi everybody, Many of you know I've been sailing Albacores the last few years in Toronto a mixture of helming and crewing. A tough fleet (50 boats out most Fridays in summer). Some successes, Canadian champion (crew) in 2008 and Friday night winner (helm) in 2008, we even won a race at the worlds a ...

Strop

Yes, has happened to me in the past. The furler needs to be lubricated, never furl with the mainsheet under tension and tie an emergency piece of string through the strop to stop the mast coming down if the strop breaks.
