Improvers Weekend, Stewartby WSC, 30 June - 1 July 2001

Location: Stewartby Sailing Club, Near Bedford.

On Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July Stewartby WSC are hosting the Dart 15 Improvers Weekend (unfortunately we cannot call it a Training Weekend for technical reasons).

We intend to kick off the weekend around 11.00 - 11.30 by helping people to rig their boats and see if there are any bits left over. After the rigging is finished and people are happy with how to rig their boats we will have a lunch break and then take to the water for the serious stuff.

The water born training will consist of general mark rounding, tacking and gybing, racing starts, mini 1 lap short course races, maintaining boat speed in varying wind strengths and of course the obligatory capsize drill. During the water born sessions we intend to have a few Video cameras on rescue boats taking footage to look at later in the bar, in our club instruction we have found this a very useful teaching aid.

We also hope to help those who wish practice Sprinting.

With regards to staying overnight there is plenty of grassed lawn for camping & caravans at the clubhouse. There is a Travelodge at the north end of the lake in Marston Mortain Tel 0870 900 3995.

The cost of the weekend will be £10 / person, this includes a BBQ on Sat night. There will be a normal Club Galley at all other times for purchases of food and drink.

The Club is located 10 mins off junc 13 M1 on the A421 towards Bedford. To get there from the North, West or South take the M1 to junction 13 and travel in the Bedford direction on the A421 for about 3 miles. The Lake is situated on the right (South) side of the A421 just hidden from view with bushes, etc. Turn right where sign posted. The entrance to the club is half a mile down the side road on the right. From the A1 and Bedford direction, head for Kempston and take the A421 West in the direction of the M1 and Woburn. Look for Stewartby on your left but DO NOT follow the first left sign to Stewartby but take the second left which is the direct route to the sailing club.
