Carsington is a newish venue of around 400 acres of open water in beautiful surroundings in the Peak District near Matlock. The Sprint 15 fleet grew quickly and has taken over from the Dart 18s and Hurricanes as the main catamaran fleet at the Club. Ray Gall is the Northern Representative of the Sprint 15 Association committee and is also the enthusiastic leader of the local fleet of more than twenty five Sprint 15s. Carsington is home waters for George Love, the Sprint 15 Association Magazine, ‘’NewSprint’’, editor. Sport mode is the preferred racing format and has been the venue in recent years for the Northern Championships. Both Ray and George are RYA qualified Multihull Instructors and Race Coaches and are intent on growing the fleet and cat sailing in general through their excellent training facilities which are centred around three cats dedicated for teaching. They have a good youth section in the fleet led by Tom Gall and Robin Newbold. Tom is a bit of a poser on his boat (which he likes to ride like a cowboy astride of the top hull when heeled over) so he was a natural to invite to the photo shoot of the new “Out of Africa” model when Yachts and Yachting did their boat test. Get a reprint of the article from the Class Association FOC or download it from Yachts and Yachting and see what you think.
